When responding to media outlets asking for his inputs on the latest saga between Senator Natasha, Kogi and the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, Reno Omokri has this to say via his verified Facebook handle.
Reno Omokri posted;
I have been overwhelmed with interview requests from nearly all major media outlets in Nigeria regarding the controversy involving Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Natasha Akpoti. These media organizations are interested in my perspective, given that I was once accused by Senator Akpoti of the same serious allegations she is now leveling against the Senate President.
Despite my reluctance, my name has been trending on various social media platforms. For the sake of my family, I believe it is best to address this matter and move on.
Rather than granting multiple interviews, I hope to relieve some of the pressure by issuing this statement.
I cannot confirm whether the allegations Senator Natasha Akpoti made against the Senate President are true, as I was not present when the alleged incidents occurred.
However, I can confirm that I previously had an altercation with Senator Akpoti on social media. This stemmed from a situation where a woman made advances toward me, which I rejected, stating that my wife is a beauty queen and more than enough for me. The woman, as it turned out, was or had been a friend of Senator Akpoti. Following my rejection of her advances, Senator Akpoti accused me of sexually harassing her at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa during a reception for visiting Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta between May 4 and May 7, 2014.
Unfortunately for Senator Akpoti, during those dates, I was in the United States as President Jonathan’s special envoy. I met and was photographed with multiple U.S. officials, including those from the State Department, in Washington, D.C.
To further substantiate my whereabouts, I published proof, including a First Class British Airways ticket and my passport—one that required a special kind of stamp, distinguishing it from a regular Nigerian passport—clearly showing I was not in Nigeria at the time of the alleged incident.
After I presented this evidence, Ms. Natasha Akpoti, as she was known at the time, deleted all traces of her accusations against me, including a video in which she insulted me, my wife, and our newborn daughter.
As I was considering my next steps, a highly respected individual from my ethnic nationality intervened through a prominent Christian clergyman, who acted as a mediator. This respected elder addressed me in my native Itsekiri language, expressed his regrets over the situation, and, at the clergyman’s urging, I agreed to an out-of-court settlement.
Since my name had been cleared and the settlement was satisfactory, I chose to let the matter rest. That was the extent of my encounter with Senator Natasha Akpoti.
I now ask the media to respect my decision not to grant interviews or get involved in this issue, especially as I hold in high regard the individual who mediated the settlement.
As for the Senate, I have the utmost respect for the institution and its leadership. I believe the appropriate course of action is for the Senate to initiate an investigation through the relevant committee to determine the truth behind these latest allegations.
