Road Safety Groups Sign Letter To Ban Tesla’s Cybertruck In Europe

Tesla’s recently introduced Cybertruck, which also functions as a robotaxi, has been labeled as a potential hazard by various European road safety organizations concerned about its operation.

In an open letter, over seven non-governmental organizations, including the International Federation of Pedestrians and the European Road Safety Council, argued that Elon Musk’s bulky vehicle poses multiple risks to road safety in Europe.

The letter was prompted by the Czech Republic’s recent decision to classify one of Tesla’s trucks as a passenger vehicle, allowing it to enter the continent.

Road safety advocates claim that Tesla’s electric vehicle, resembling a Hummer, could lead to significant issues for European drivers, and they are calling for a ban on the vehicle in Europe.

The letter states, “We believe that the approval and registration of Cybertrucks in the EU presents illegal risks to all other road users. If this assessment is accepted, it follows that the few Cybertrucks currently registered in the EU should be de-registered, with the relevant Member States confirming their removal from public roads.”

It further emphasizes that “The Cybertruck does not comply with several fundamental European road safety standards applicable to passenger cars (M1),” citing concerns such as its insufficient or absent crumple zones for crash protection and its sharp edges.
