CNG-Powered Car Caught Fire, Explodes In Edo

A tragedy occurred on Thursday morning in Benin City, the capital of Edo State, when a car powered by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) caught fire then exploded at the NIPCO filling station on Aduwawa along the Benin-Auchi Expressway.

A viral video circulating on social media shows the vehicle in pieces, while nearby individuals fled in panic due to the loud explosion that startled local residents.

Reports indicate that three people suffered varying degrees of injuries and were taken to a private hospital for treatment.

This explosion raises safety concerns regarding the conversion of petrol-powered vehicles to CNG, a practice promoted by the Federal Government as a way to reduce transportation costs after the removal of fuel subsidies.
