Israel Announces Killing Of Hamas Leader In Gaza, Yahya Sinwar
Yahya Sinwar, the chief of Hamas’ politburo, has been confirmed dead in Gaza by both the Israeli government and military.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Israeli military announced, “After completing the process of identifying the body, it can be confirmed that Yahya Sinwar was eliminated.”
Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz stated that Sinwar’s death could “create the possibility to immediately release the hostages.”
This confirmation followed reports from Israeli broadcasters KAN and N12 News, which cited officials claiming Sinwar had been killed, although Hamas has not officially confirmed this information.
The Israeli military had previously mentioned that it was verifying the possibility of Sinwar’s death through a DNA test after an operation in Gaza aimed at three Palestinian resistance fighters.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remarked that the conflict in Gaza would continue despite Sinwar’s death and urged the resistance group to release the hostages.
