Dangote Discloses “Toy” As The Expensive Thing He Ever Bought

Renowned Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote has prompted many Nigerians to rethink their spending habits after he identified a “toy” as his most expensive purchase and revealed its cost.
As of February 2025, Aliko Dangote’s net worth is estimated at $28.2 billion according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, positioning him as Africa’s richest person.
Dangote is the founder and CEO of the Dangote Group, a major corporation with ten subsidiaries, including Dangote Cement, Dangote Sugar Refinery, Dangote Flour Mills, NASCON Allied Industries (Dangote Salt), Dangote Fertilizer, Dangote Petroleum Refinery, Dangote Agro Sacks, Dangote Noodles, Dangote Transport, and Dangote Tomato Processing Plant.
During an interview with young individuals, Dangote likened money to a whimsical visitor, stressing the unpredictability of wealth; you can have it one day and lose it the next. He underscored the need to respect money and avoid frivolous spending.
Dangote drew attention in this interview when he disclosed that the most expensive item he has ever purchased is a toy aircraft valued at approximately $50 million, or around N75.2 billion.
He stated, “Money is something that is really very funny; you can have it today and it won’t be there tomorrow, so you just don’t spend it anyhow. I don’t spend my money carelessly.”
When asked about his priciest purchase, Dangote responded, “The most expensive toy I have ever bought was my aircraft, which cost me about $50 million.”
Additionally, billionaire Aliko Dangote shared insights with the group on how they could attain similar wealth in the future. He asserted that nothing is unachievable and emphasized the significance of honesty and a good reputation. He noted that while a bit of luck can aid in success, hard work is crucial, and having an open mind is key for making intelligent risks.
