Workers In Rivers To Earn 85,000 As Minimum Wage

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has approved a new minimum wage of N85,000 for civil servants in the service of the Rivers State Government.

The decision was reached on Friday during a closed session chaired by the governor and attended by representatives of the Civil Service Joint Negotiating Council unions at the Government House, Port Harcourt.

After the meeting, the Rivers State Head of Civil Service, Dr. George Nwaeke, on behalf of the government, approved the new minimum wage by Governor Fubara.

According to Nwaeke, the implementation will begin in November 2024.

On possible arrears of the new salary, Nwaeke explained that a technical committee has been set up to work out a feasible payment plan to clear the arrears. Nwaeke said: “He, Governor Fubara, has declared an amount that is more than the national minimum wage. He has declared an amount of N85,000.00, which is more than the nationally prescribed minimum wage.
