Wike, Fubara’s Issue Gone Too Far, Beyond Reconciliation – Fayose

Ayo Fayose, the former Governor of Ekiti State, has stated that reconciliation between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and his former protégé, Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, is no longer possible.

Fayose, who is a close friend and political ally of Wike, believes that the situation has escalated too much for any reconciliation efforts to be effective. He emphasized that there has been a significant breach of trust between the two politicians, making it difficult to restore their relationship.

“This crisis is very unfortunate,” he remarked during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics. “I think the matter has crossed a critical point. It has gone too far. Even if there were attempts to resolve it, the issue of trust remains. I believe it is too late to seek reconciliation,” he added.

According to DAILY POST, Wike and Fubara, who took over as Rivers Governor in 2023, have been in conflict since Fubara’s inauguration. In a recent interview, Wike indicated that it is up to Fubara to restore peace in Rivers State. Despite intervention from President Bola Tinubu, the tensions between the two have persisted and intensified during the recent local government elections in the state.

DAILY POST also reported violent incidents in at least four local government areas, with political thugs setting fire to parts of buildings in Eleme, Ikwerre, and Emohua council offices, while gunfire erupted in Ahoada East as they resisted newly elected council officials on Monday. The violence followed the withdrawal of police officers who had been securing the 23 council secretariats.
