Who Destroyed The Mali Empire?

The Mali Empire’s downfall was a gradual process, triggered by internal instability and external pressures. After Mansa Musa’s death, the empire began to decline, shrinking to its original size by 1645. Several factors contributed to its demise:

External Pressures: The Tuareg seized Walata and Timbuktu in 1431, while the Mossi people began to harass the Mali overlord.

Rebellion and Independence: Gao rebelled around 1400, and the peoples of Takrur and their neighbors threw off their subjection to the Mali Empire.

Internal Weakness: The empire outgrew its political and military strength, leading to a decline in its ability to maintain control over its vast territories.

These internal and external pressures ultimately led to the fragmentation of the Mali Empire, marking the end of its reign as a dominant power in West Africa.
