Telegram Fined $41,000 Over Refusal To Remove Prohibited Content

A Moscow court has imposed a fine of four million rubles (approximately 41,400 U.S. dollars) on Telegram Messenger for not deleting information that is prohibited in Russia.

The court’s press service stated that Telegram was found guilty of an administrative violation for not removing content as mandated by Russian law.

However, the court did not disclose the specific information that resulted in the fine. In August 2024, Telegram was also fined four million rubles for a similar violation.

With around 900 million users, Telegram has become one of the top messaging platforms globally and holds significant influence in Russia.
