1. A former Kaduna Governor, Senator Ahmad Makarfi has lost his eldest son, Faisal Ahmad Makarfi. Faisal and two others were reportedly involved in an auto crash along Zaria-Kaduna Expressway on their way from Makarfi town on Saturday evening.
A source said Faisal died at a health facility on Zaria road, while doctors were battling to save others.
2. The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has led to the emergence of two national chairmen, following a split within the ranks of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
Worried by the escalating situation, the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) called for calm and urged the warring factions to revert to the status quo. However, the PDP governors stated that there is no faction in the party, adding that a general meeting of all its stakeholders would be held soon to bridge the gaps within the party.
3. Dangote Group plans to commence crude oil production at two blocks before the end of this year to solve the crude supply woes its refinery has been facing.
Dangote, according to S&P Global Commodity Insights, a respected provider of energy and commodities information, is already in the market for a Floating Production Storage and Offloading vessel with a capacity of 650,000 barrels of crude.
The crude will come from the Kalaekule and Koronama oilfields, just 22 km from the onshore Bonny terminal.
OMLs 71 and 72 are operated by West African E&P Venture in which Dangote holds an 85% stake.
4. The crisis within the Labour Party (LP) came to the fore again as Kenneth Okonkwo, former presidential campaign spokesperson, slammed the leadership of Julius Abure, as the party’s national chairman.
Okonkwo claimed that if Abure remains national chair, the All Progressives Congress (APC) will select LP’s 2027 presidential candidate.
Okonkwo’s comments came after a federal high court validated Abure’s leadership, prompting Nenadi Usman, chair of the caretaker committee, to announce an appeal.
5. Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has suspended his Special Adviser on Salary and Pensions, Alhaji Bashir Ado, over an alleged premature statement on N70,000 minimum wage.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Bala Ibrahim, in Dutse, on Saturday.
Ibrahim said the government viewed with serious concern, a statement circulating in various sections of the media alleging that the governor has approved N70,000 as a new minimum wage for workers in the state.
