N77,500 Approved As Minimum Wage For Delta Workers

The government of Delta State has officially declared that it will begin paying its employees a minimum wage of N77,500 starting at the end of this month.

Dr. Kingsley Emu, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), made this announcement during a meeting with the leadership of the state’s organized labor, which includes the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC), and the Joint Negotiating Council (JNC).

Emu stated that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has instructed that the new minimum wage be implemented by the end of this month.

“The minimum wage committee had previously agreed that payments could not commence until we received the chart from the National Income Salaries and Wages Commission. We have now received the chart and have reviewed the consequential adjustments and their impact on our cash flow over the last three sessions.

“Although we have not fully assessed all the implications of these adjustments on the state’s future cash flow needs, the governor has decided to proceed with the payments because he understands the struggles of the people and is committed to labor issues,” he explained.

NLC State Chairman Goodluck Ofobruku praised Oborevwori for his swift approval of the new minimum wage.
