More Than 90 Persons Dead, Dozens Injured In Petrol Tanker Explosion In Jigawa

At least 90 individuals have been reported dead, while dozens are injured following an explosion of a petrol tanker in Majiya Town, located in the Taura local government area of Jigawa State on Tuesday.

Mr. Shi’isu Adam, the Police Spokesperson for Jigawa, confirmed this information during an interview with NAN on Wednesday. He also mentioned that 50 other people have been hospitalized with varying degrees of injuries resulting from the explosion.

According to Adam, the incident occurred around 11:30 PM on Tuesday when the tanker driver lost control near Khadija University, leading to the explosion. The driver was en route from Kano to Nguru in Yobe at the time of the accident.

He expressed concern that despite police warnings advising people to avoid accident scenes involving fuel tankers, many still congregated there, contributing to the high number of casualties.

The spokesperson announced that a mass burial for the victims is scheduled for 9 AM on Wednesday and noted that the injured individuals are receiving treatment at the Ringim General Hospital.
