Man Arrested With Illegal Weapons Near Trump Campaign Rally In California

A man was apprehended on state gun charges on Saturday near a rally for Donald Trump in California, but the US Secret Service stated in a joint announcement with the FBI and the Department of Justice that the former president was “not in any danger.”

Authorities reported that the man, identified as 49-year-old Vem Miller from Las Vegas, was found to be illegally in possession of a shotgun, a loaded handgun, and a high-capacity magazine. He managed to breach the initial security perimeter at the rally in Coachella, as noted by Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco on Sunday.

After Miller reached the second security perimeter, officials noticed some “irregularities,” Bianco explained. The interior of his vehicle was messy, it was unregistered, and it displayed a counterfeit license plate.

According to Bianco, Miller had several driver’s licenses and passports under different names. The reason for his presence in the area remains unclear, although he allegedly claimed to be a journalist to gain access to the rally.

Miller was arrested before the rally and charged with firearms-related offenses. He was subsequently released on a $5,000 bail, as reported by the sheriff’s office.

CNN has made multiple attempts to contact Miller for a statement. He is scheduled to appear in court on January 2, according to jail records.
