Governor Abiodun Okays N77,000 As Minimum Wage For Workers

The governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has approved a minimum wage of N77,000 for the lowest-paid workers in the state, effective immediately.

This announcement followed a meeting between Governor Abiodun, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, and leaders from the Organised Labour, including the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and the Joint Negotiating Council (JNC), to discuss the new minimum wage implementation.

Governor Abiodun, speaking through the SSG, emphasized that no worker in the state should earn less than N77,000 starting in October.

He expressed his administration’s commitment to improving the lives of the state’s residents and taking proactive measures to alleviate their hardships.

He also mentioned that he is in communication with the private sector to encourage them to adopt the state government’s minimum wage policy, as their employees are also affected by the country’s economic conditions.

The governor urged the private sector to engage with their stakeholders to establish an appropriate minimum wage for their industry. Additionally, he plans to create a monitoring team to ensure that the private sector adheres to this wage policy, preventing any worker from being underpaid.
