The death toll from the tanker explosion in Jigawa State has increased to 105, with the number of injured rising to 70.

Earlier reports from Arewa Times indicated that at least 94 people had died and 50 others were injured in the explosion that occurred in Taura LGA of Jigawa State on Wednesday.

According to a statement from DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the spokesperson for the Jigawa State Command, the explosion was triggered by petrol leaking from the tanker into a drainage ditch.

“Tragically, villagers tried to collect the petrol from the gutter, which led to a fire that consumed the area, resulting in many fatalities,” he explained.

He confirmed that 105 bodies have been recovered, and 70 injured individuals were taken to Ringim and Hadejia General Hospitals for treatment.

The fire was eventually brought under control thanks to the efforts of police officers, firefighters, and local residents.
