Dangote Refinery Built Without Support From FG – Dangote
Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, stated that his refinery, which has a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, was constructed without any incentives from the Nigerian government.
He made this announcement during the Crude Oil Refinery Owners Association of Nigeria Summit in Lagos.
Represented by Engr Mansur Ahmed, Executive Director of Dangote Group, Dangote highlighted that the refinery is already producing enough diesel and jet fuel to satisfy Nigeria’s needs.
The $20 billion refinery began operations on January 12, 2024, initially refining 300,000 barrels per day, which increased to 400,000 barrels by the end of September 2024.
On September 15, the refinery started distributing petrol, with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited as the exclusive buyer.
Dangote pointed out that despite being Africa’s largest crude oil producer, Nigeria has relied heavily on imports for its refined petroleum products for many years.
Following the launch of Dangote petrol, NNPCL announced new fuel prices ranging from N950 to N1,100 per liter at its retail locations nationwide.
In September 2024, Dangote also called for the complete removal of fuel subsidies by the Nigerian government.
