Costly Petroleum Products Catalysts For Increased Poverty – Peter Obi

According to Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party, LP, in the general elections in 2023, power outages and the high cost of petroleum products could increase poverty in Nigeria.

This was stated by Obi in a Sunday post on X, where he emphasized that the recurring power outages have unimaginable negative effects on businesses, particularly small businesses.

The former governor of Anambra State lamented that the northern regions of Nigeria have been completely without power for several days.

“The continued power outages in many parts of the country have remained a source of grave concern, particularly in the Northern, Eastern, and South-South states.

“The adverse consequence of the proceeded with blackout on organizations, particularly independent companies, who rely basically upon public power supply to support their organizations for of work, is unfathomable.

He tweeted, “This power crisis, when combined with the current high cost of petroleum products and a difficult operating environment, remains a deadly recipe for widespread business failure and increasing poverty in the country.”
