Cost To US Taxpayers Of War In Gaza, Others Is $22.8 Billion

Since October 7, 2023, US expenditures related to Israel’s conflict in Gaza have reached at least $17.9 billion, according to research from the Costs of War project at Brown University’s Watson Institute and reported by Al Jazeera.

The study also indicates that American military actions in other parts of the region, especially in Yemen—where the Houthis claim their actions are connected to the Gaza conflict—have incurred costs of $4.9 billion for the US government.

The report notes that “the US Navy has significantly increased its defensive and offensive operations against Houthi militants in Yemen,” with the situation escalating into the most prolonged military engagement by US forces since the air campaign against ISIS in Iraq and Syria from 2016 to 2019.

Furthermore, the analysis estimates that the conflict related to the Houthis has resulted in an additional $2.1 billion in costs to maritime trade, as shipping companies have had to reroute vessels or pay high insurance premiums. This may lead to higher prices for goods for US consumers.
