Renowned actress Bukky Wright has revealed that her long break from acting was driven by her dedication to her children’s well-being.
During a recent interview with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on Channels TV, Wright explained that she temporarily stepped away from her career to care for her children overseas, emphasizing the importance of being present during crucial stages of their lives.
She highlighted the unique role mothers play in their children’s upbringing, stressing that their presence is invaluable. Wright also acknowledged the sacrifices mothers often make, particularly when facing challenging circumstances.
Reassuring her fans, the actress confirmed her return to the industry and expressed excitement about taking on new projects.
Speaking on her decision, she said:
“I decided to explore other ventures for a while, but I’m back. If you say it was about making money, I wouldn’t say I fell out of love with acting—there’s still so much I want to do. However, I had to pause for my children. When they needed me, I had to prioritize them. There comes a time in both a woman’s life and her children’s lives when a mother’s presence is crucial. Since my children are abroad, I had to set everything aside to care for them.”
She further explained the challenges of raising children overseas, saying:
“You don’t want to leave your children with just anyone abroad, especially at certain ages when they start asserting independence, saying things like, ‘You’re not my mom, you can’t talk to me like that,’ or ‘You’re not my dad, you can’t tell me what to do.’ That’s why it’s essential to be there yourself.”
Wright also pointed out the sacrifices mothers make, such as traveling for Omugwo (traditional postpartum care), something she noted men rarely do. She concluded by emphasizing the irreplaceable role of mothers, referencing a Yoruba saying:
“A mother is always a mother, but a father can be a father to many.”
