The lead counsel to Sunday Adeyemo, Yomi Alliyu (SAN), has told of how men of the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL), arrested the Yoruba Nation agitator, in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

Aliyu, said Sunday Adeyemo also known as Sunday Igboho, was arrested alongside his wife, Ropo, a a German citizen while trying to board a flight to Germany.

This much was contained in a statement by Aliyu, who said INTERPOL working on the directives of the federal government arrested Adeyemo on Monday night at the airport in Benin Republic.

In the statement sighted by Daily Sun, Aliyu, condemned the arrest of the leader of the Yoruba nation which he described as impunity and called on the government of Germany, Benin Republic and the international community “to rise up and curb the impunity of the Nigerian Government by refusing any application for extradition of our Client who already has application before the International Criminal Court duly acknowledged”.

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has congratulated his Ondo State counterpart, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), as he turns 65 years on Wednesday.

Okowa’s felicitation is contained in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Olisa Ifeajika on Tuesday in Asaba.

He lauded Akeredolu, who is the Chairman of Southern Governors’ Forum, for putting aside partisanship in picking the gauntlet to provide leadership for the Forum at a very critical time in the history of the nation.

He described Akeredolu as an urbane, cerebral leader of great value and a committed progressive concerned about the yearnings and aspirations of the people of Ondo State and Southern Nigeria.

Okowa extolled the contributions of Akeredolu to the sustainable development and peace in his state and Nigeria.

“You provided leadership and direction for the people of Southern Nigeria when it mattered most and we are entirely grateful to you.

“I am glad to know that you have won the admiration of the people of Ondo State with your people-oriented governance geared toward yielding massive dividends of democracy for them.

“On behalf of the government and people of Delta, I heartily rejoice with a reputable politician, outstanding professional and my brother governor, Mr Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu (SAN), Governor of Ondo State as he turns 65 on July 21, 2021.

“It is our prayer that God will continue to protect you and grant you good health to render more services to mankind,” he said.(NAN).

Presidency: PDP Not In Position to Win 2023 Elections;

The Presidency Tuesday ruled out the possibility of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)winning the 2023 presidential election in the country.

It has, therefore, urged the party to forget about the forthcoming 2023 polls because the masses adore President Muhammadu Buhari and will not abandon him.

The Senior Special Assistant to President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, told newsmen in Daura, Katsina State, that Nigerians knew too well than to allow another party take over in 2023.

According to him: “We believe the PDP and other opposition parties are nursing false hopes of taking power comes 2023. The masses will never abandon President Buhari’s leadership and the APC. I assure you that in 2023, the masses will be waiting for the President to show the way in courtesy of what he has been building for the country in terms of infrastructure and wellbeing of young people in the country. Nobody will take the risk by inviting another party to come and take over in 2023.

’’The President enjoys unshakable support not only in his hometown but also across the country and it is enough for the opposition to admit that the President matters a lot for the ruling party and Nigerians in general. Again he constitutes a political obstacle they cannot dismantle come 2023.”

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has stated that Nigerians are already tired of the Muhammadu Buhari presidency and can’t wait for his tenure to end in 2023.

The PDP in a statement on Tuesday signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan said anything that will keep the Buhari government in office longer than May 29, 2023, will be firmly resisted.

The PDP was responding to an earlier report in which the presidency had admonished the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to forget about returning to power when the tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari expires in 2023.

The Senior Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu made the submission while speaking on Tuesday after the Eid-el-Kabir prayer in Abuja.
