Kano is a state located in the northern region of Nigeria. It was formed in 1968 from Kano province. The state is home to a diverse population and a rich cultural heritage. Kano is renowned for its production of textiles, agricultural products and other goods. It is the largest contributor to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
The state has a population of over 10 million people and its capital is Kano city. Kano State is bordered by Katsina State to the north-west, Jigawa State to the north-east, Bauchi State to the south-east, and Kaduna State to the south-west.
In 1991, its northeastern portion was split off to form Jigawa State. The state has a tropical savanna climate with two distinct seasons: a dry season from November to March and a wet season from April to October. The economy of Kano State is largely based on agriculture, trade and manufacturing.
Kano is also renowned for its production of textiles, leather, agricultural products, processed foods and beverages. It is also home to several universities and other tertiary institutions, providing educational opportunities to its citizens.
