Cucumber is a widely-cultivated creeping vine plant in the Cucurbitaceae gourd family that bears cucumiform fruits, which are used as vegetables.
Considered an annual plant, there are three main varieties of cucumber slicing, pickling, and burpless/seedless, within which several cultivars have been created.
Formally known by their scientific name Cucumis sativus, cucumbers are a member of the gourd, or Cucurbitaceae, family of plants ( 1 ). They originated in various parts of Southeast Asia but are currently grown all over the world.
A raw cucumber has got many health benefits and especially to a woman as discussed below.
1. Softens the lips.
Cucumbers contain photo chemicals that tighten you lip skin making it appear healthy and hydrated. This will help to keep your lips moisturized all day.
2. Removes dark spots on the skin.
Cucumbers are known for their numerous antioxidants that are of great value to the body including purging the dark skin on your neck. All you need to do is to crush the cucumber, then rub it against your skin for five minutes.
Leave it intact for another ten minutes then wash it off using water.
3. Reduces premature ageing.
Cucumber is suited with vitamin C, folic acid and antioxidants which stimulates the growth of new cells of the skin as well as reducing wrinkles in the face. In addition, these components help in fighting against any toxins that can come in contact with the skin hence leaving the skin healthier and younger.
4. Soothes irritated skin.
Placing cucumber slices on your face helps to ease any irritation, redness and pain which might have been caused by rashes, insect bites or sunburn. This is enhanced by the high amount of potassium, water and vitamins contained in cucumbers.
5. Keeps the body hydrated.
Did you know that a large portion of cucumber is filled with water? I know that you had no idea about this. Eating a cucumber is a good thing to do as it will keep your body hydrated.
6. Healthy eyes.
Cataracts is an eye related problem but it can be prevented by consuming raw cucumber. Cucumber has got anti-inflammatory properties which deal with cataracts and any eye relate problems.
7. Fresh breath.
If you have a bad breath and tried all sorts of mouthwash but in vain, cucumber is the way out. Consuming a raw cucumber will help greatly. It does away with it leaving your mouth fresh.
8. Weight loss.
The body likes slow changes in terms of food and exercise. For example, someone who hasn’t exercised for years shouldn’t rush into running miles each day or pounding the treadmill. Not only will the struggle likely leave you feeling disheartened and demotivated, you’re also far more likely to injure yourself and set your fitness levels back even further.
However, if you are struggling to lose weight, cucumber is the only option. It is low in calories and fiber which leave you full all the time hence slowing down your digestion.
