The Christian community in Nigeria has been thrown into mourning yet again, as the tragic death of Rev. Fr. James Omeh, a devoted priest of the Catholic Diocese of Minna, has left many in shock and sorrow. Barely after the loss of Pastor Azzaman David on his way from Benue on (25-5-2025), this fresh wound reopens grief in a way words cannot fully capture.
It happened on a Sunday same with Rev Azzaman David—a sacred day for every priest. It was raining heavily, and many might have stayed indoors. But Fr. Omeh, ever committed to his flock, refused to let the rain hinder his divine duty. With selfless dedication, he left for Mass, determined to bring the Word of God to his parishioners, rain or not.
Tragically, on his journey, a bridge gave way beneath his vehicle. The car plunged into a river swollen by the storm. Efforts to rescue him were in vain. The current claimed not just his body, but a soul in active service to both God and humanity.
Rev. Fr. James Omeh died not out of recklessness, but out of an overwhelming love for his calling. His sacrifice echoes deeply, a painful reminder of the silent battles and risks borne by men of faith. He gave his life doing what he was called to do—serving others, even in the face of danger.
Now, his seat at the altar is empty, but his legacy stands—etched in the hearts of those he prayed for, preached to, and loved unconditionally. Heaven may have gained a priest, but Earth weeps for the one it lost.
