Shettima’s Life Is At Risk – Borno Speaker Requests New Plane For VP
Abdulkarim Lawan, Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, has stated that the “flawed” presidential aircraft that Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima uses puts his life in danger.
Due to an incident at an airport in New York, Shettima had to cancel his trip to the Commonwealth Summit in Samoa.
The Presidency confirmed that his plane was struck by a “foreign object” while it was stopped at JFK Airport in New York.
The accident caused damage to some of the aircraft, including the cockpit windscreen.
In an explanation gave in Maiduguri, the capital Borno state, on Sunday, Lawan requested that the Nigerian Government buy another plane for Shettima.
He stated, ” “I also express my gratitude to Allah (God) for saving the precious life of our dear Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima and those on board the ill- fated VP’s plane, even as I urge the Nigerian government to demand a thorough and timely investigation from the United States government over the incident that affected Vice President Kashim Shettima’s plane at one of the most secure spots in the World,” I said. “I also express my gratitude to Allah (God) for saving the precious life
Using the dated and faulty presidential aircraft puts the Vice President’s life and the lives of his crew and officials in danger.
“Therefore, there is an immediate need to acquire a new aircraft for Senator Kashim Shettima in order to prevent these air mishaps from occurring again.”
