The Nigerian Senate has given its approval to the State of Emergency declared in Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu.
In addition, the upper legislative chamber sanctioned a six-month suspension of Governor Sim Fubara, his Deputy, and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
This decision was reached following a closed-door session where lawmakers deliberated on the issue.
According to DAILY POST, the House of Representatives had earlier endorsed the State of Emergency through a voice vote.
President Tinubu’s decision to impose emergency rule in Rivers State has sparked widespread controversy and criticism from various stakeholders.
Despite strong opposition, both legislative chambers on Thursday formally approved the measure, solidifying the implementation of emergency rule in the state.
