The Nigerian film industry is in mourning due to the unfortunate passing of esteemed director Rotimi Raji, known as Genius.
Reports reveal that Raji was discovered dead in his bathroom on February 15, just a day after Valentine’s Day. It is said that the filmmaker, who lived alone in Baruwa, Ipaja, Lagos, may have collapsed and died.
His passing was noticed when a worried neighbor, disturbed by his unexpected silence, repeatedly called out to him. When the neighbor looked through an open window, they saw Raji’s lifeless body on the bathroom floor. Authorities and family were notified, his door was forcibly opened, and his body was taken to the morgue.
His bereaved family is requesting an autopsy to ascertain the cause of his sudden death.
The news has reverberated throughout Nollywood, leaving colleagues grappling with the loss. Director Tunde Dickson has confirmed the sorrowful event, while actors like Adeniyi Johnson, Kiitan Bukola, and Regina Chukwu have shared their condolences on social media.
Raji’s premature passing represents yet another significant loss for the Nigerian entertainment sector.
