Nigerian Govt Reveals Strategies To Defeat Terrorist Group, Lakurawa

The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has revealed the Nigerian government’s plans to combat the terror group, Lakurawa. He stated that by deploying troops and supplying additional equipment, the government aims to defeat Lakurawa, which has been linked to recent attacks and fatalities in Sokoto and Kebbi states.

The group’s assaults resulted in the deaths of 15 individuals and the theft of around 100 cattle in Mera, located in Kebbi State’s Augie Local Government Area. However, the Minister assured that the Federal government has already developed strategies to tackle the terror group.

In an interview with BBC Hausa Service, he mentioned, “We have outlined strategies to eliminate this new terror group, with the provision of more equipment and troops to the affected regions to put an end to it. The Chief of Defence Staff, along with the Chiefs of Army, Navy, and Air Staff, have convened and devised plans, and I am confident in their approach. With your support, we will overcome this security challenge, God willing.”

He noted that there have been successes over the past year, but acknowledged that while they strategize, the group is also adapting its tactics. Nevertheless, he emphasized that those familiar with the situation would recognize the progress made in this fight, and he hopes this momentum will continue until the security issue is fully resolved.

He also reassured that measures are being taken to curb the threat and prevent the group’s expansion into other states.
