Two people has on Tuesday attempted to assassinate Mali’s interim president Colonel Assimi Goita with a knife during Eid prayers at a mosque in Bamako, Mali’s capital.

Reports said the two attackers, while one armed with a knife tried to attack President Goita, but were crushed by security forces guarding the president, while other reports said blood stain was found in the area. However its unknown at this time who’s blood was bleeds.

The presidency later said Goita was in good health following the plot to assassinate him.

Minister of Religious Affairs Mamadou Kone, who was inside the mosque at the time of the attack, said the man who attempted the said assassination had already been arrested, and an investigation had been launched to identify those involved.

Colonel Assimi Goita led the military to oust Mali’s government from Ibrahim Boubacar Keita in August last year, before re-seizing power for a second time from caretaker President Bah Ndaw.
