Johann Rupert, one of South Africa’s wealthiest individuals, has an estimated net worth of $9 billion. He is the eldest son of the late Anton Rupert, a renowned South African business magnate. Johann currently chairs Richemont, a luxury goods company based in Switzerland, and Remgro, a South African investment holding company.
His fortune has seen a remarkable boost of about 30% recently, largely due to the improved performance of his luxury brand group, Compagnie Financière Richemont. Over the past year, Richemont’s stock value has surged by over 50%.
Although he stepped down as CEO of Richemont in 2012—passing the role to Richard Lepeu and Bernard Fornas, who became co-CEOs—his wealth has kept growing. This is due to his substantial stakes in both Remgro and Reinet.
