Nigerian police have confirmed the release of 100 people abducted by gunmen in Manawa, Zamfara State, after 42 days in captivity.

In a statement issued late Tuesday, the police said the 100 people, including women, men and children abducted on June 8, had all been released.

Zamfara State police spokesman Mohammed Shehu said the men were released without conditions, adding that no ransom had been paid.

Zamfara is one of the worst hit states by militants who kidnap people and demand ransoms, while gunmen sometimes attack towns and kill people.

On Monday, 13 policemen were killed by gunmen in Zamfara State as they were on their way to rescue civilians from cattle rustlers and kidnappers.
