Thick clouds of smoke stretched across the skies after a fire erupted at an electrical substation in St John’s Wood, London. According to the London Fire Brigade, about 100 firefighters and 15 fire engines were deployed to tackle the fire on Victoria Passage on Tuesday, April 29.
A spokesperson for the Brigade initially stated, “Firefighters are working to put out the flames. There is a significant amount of smoke, making the fire highly noticeable. Our 999 Control Centre received roughly 40 emergency calls reporting the incident.”
The emergency response began at 5:29 a.m. and crews from both Paddington and Euston fire stations were still at the scene.
UK Power Networks confirmed the fire was triggered by a fault in a piece of equipment at the substation. Although a major incident was declared during the peak of the fire, it was later downgraded by late morning.
