Election Tribunal Remove Gombe Speaker From Office

The Speaker of Gombe State House of Assembly, Abubakar Luggerewo, has been removed by the National and State Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal.

The tribunal ruled in favor of Bashir Abdullahi, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who had challenged Luggerewo’s victory in the March 18 election in Akko central district.

Abdullahi argued that the cancellation of results in certain polling units gave the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate an unfair advantage.

The tribunal agreed with Abdullahi and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a rerun election within 30 days to determine the true winner.

The tribunal criticized INEC for canceling the results in those polling units.
