Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has expressed worries about the possibility of being arrested and detained.
He mentioned hearing rumors about his potential arrest but clarified that he does not plan to go into exile. In a post on X on Tuesday, El-Rufai claimed that his opponents are trying to push him out of the country.
El-Rufai made this statement in response to a supporter, Imran Wakili, regarding the alleged scheme to arrest him. Currently in Egypt, El-Rufai stated he intends to return to Nigeria before February 20, asserting, “I will spend more time in Nigeria than ever before.”
He noted that he has received intimidation and threats through friends, family, and political associates, aimed at forcing him into self-imposed exile.
El-Rufai has paused his academic and language-learning pursuits, emphasizing that silence is no longer an option.
He reflected on his past experiences of being arrested and detained for expressing his views on previous governments, stating that political life continues after such events. He also remarked on the inevitability of death, which is determined by Allah.
Addressing those who are anxious about his presence in Nigeria, he affirmed his intention to return in time for the launch of President IBB’s memoirs on February 20, in sha Allah. He concluded by expressing reliance on Allah, stating that they fear no one but the Almighty and always hope for the best while preparing for the worst.
El-Rufai is currently in conflict with supporters of President Bola Tinubu and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), having recently criticized the party for its lack of internal democracy, noting that its organs have not convened in the last two years.
