Countries That Recognise Palestine In 2024

This year, in the context of Israel’s ongoing conflict with Gaza, nine nations—Armenia, Slovenia, Ireland, Norway, Spain, the Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, and Barbados—officially acknowledged the State of Palestine, indicating an increase in international backing.

On November 29, the world commemorates the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, a day established by the UN in 1977 to highlight global support for Palestinian rights, including self-determination, independence, and a fair resolution for Palestinian refugees.

Recognizing Palestine enhances its international presence, boosts its ability to hold Israeli authorities accountable for the occupation, and exerts pressure on Western nations to pursue a two-state solution.

Currently, at least 146 UN member states recognize the State of Palestine, along with the Holy See, which is the governing body of the Catholic Church and Vatican City, and has UN observer status.
