Christoffel Wiese is a seasoned South African businessman with a net worth of $5.4 billion, making him one of the wealthiest individuals in the country. He holds the position of Chairman and is the largest single shareholder of Shoprite, Africa’s largest low-cost supermarket chain.
He also serves as the Executive Chairman of Pepkor, a discount retail company dealing in clothing, footwear, and textiles, where he has a significant shareholding. In addition, Wiese has made substantial investments in seven listed companies, with the value of those shares appreciating over time.
In 2009, he became involved in a controversy when £1.1 million in cash was discovered in his luggage at London City Airport and seized. He referred to the amount as “peanuts,” and the funds were eventually returned in July 2012.
