Following his earlier report in January about Apple introducing an “Air” model to its iPhone lineup, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has shared additional insights into the upcoming slimmer device.
According to Gurman, the iPhone 17 Air is set to debut this fall. Similar to the MacBook Air, it will be thinner than standard models while incorporating a mix of premium and budget-friendly features. Developing this slimmer design required a significant engineering effort, particularly in reducing battery size without compromising battery life.
Gurman also reveals that Apple considered making this the first iPhone without any physical ports, relying solely on wireless charging and cloud-based data syncing.
However, the company ultimately decided against this approach, at least for now, partly due to concerns about compliance with European regulations requiring smartphones to support USB-C connectivity.
