Pa Ayo Adebanjo, a key figure in Afenifere, the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organization, has passed away at the age of 96. He died peacefully on the morning of Friday, February 14, 2025, at his home in Lekki, Lagos State, as confirmed by his family in a statement to the press.
The statement noted: “He died peacefully this morning, Friday, February 14, 2025, at his Lekki, Lagos Nigeria home at the age of 96.” Adebanjo was a respected lawyer, a former organizing secretary of the Action Group, and the national leader of Afenifere. He is survived by his 94-year-old wife, Chief Christy Ayo-Adebanjo, as well as children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
The family expressed their deep appreciation for his unwavering commitment to truth, equity, and justice, highlighting his lifelong dedication to advocating for an independent and progressive Nigeria until the end of his life.
